Bees
A very large group of hymenopterans feeding on pollen and nectar.
Grasshoppers and Crickets
There are some 17000 known members of this group,of which more than half are Grasshoppers. Over 600 species occur in Europe, but the great majority of these are confined to the south-notiably in Iberia and Greece-and only about 250 species extend into central Europe. Only 30 occur in the British Isles
Hoverflies
A Family of about 5000 species, with hovering and darting flight. Body shape very variable. Many mimic bees and wasps.
Ladybirds
Small,domed and usually hemispherical although some species are oblong. Head sunk into pronotum. Legs short and retractable. Usually brightly coloured and distastfull but colour attern is notoriously variable.
Shield bugs
The following bugs are known as Shield bugs, from their general shape. All have 5-segmented antennae. They are also known as "Stink bugs" becouse many species emit pungent fluids when alarmed. Many hibernate as adults and are seen mainly in autumn and spring. The group contain both herbivorous and carnivorous species.
